Vaccines promise “Great British summer”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock wants the UK to get back to normal quickly and told the nation this week: “I want us to have that Great British summer. And my team and I are working hard to deliver this as fast as possible.”

With the promise to vaccinate every over-50 against Covid-19 by the start of May – that’s 32 million people in all – the Government is doing everything it can to put a summer smile on our faces.

The vaccine has already prompted The Game Fair regulars Colin and Carol Letch, who run pest control product manufacturer Colin’s Traps, to roll over their deposit from last year and confirm their attendance for 2021 at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire.

The pair – 83- and 82-years-old respectively – have just had both doses of the vaccine and cannot wait to meet up with old friends and customers and make new ones at The Game Fair.

Carol explained: “Last year there were no shows at all and we did think, because of our ages, that that might be it and we wouldn’t do any more; we had considered asking for a refund.

“But we realised we really missed everyone and, now we have had the vaccine, we feel there is no reason not to be at The Game Fair – in fact we are really looking forward to it.”

The Game Fair managing director, James Gower, added: “It’s heart-warming to hear Colin and Carol’s story. The mass vaccination programme is a game changer for our British summer and for our ‘festival of the great British countryside’. And being an outdoor show as well, we have every belief that this will be the safest and most fun event this year!”
