It’s Game Fair Eve and the site is buzzing with people in high viz, beautiful calm gundogs surveying the grounds and a real feel of excitement in the air.
If you are planning to come to The Game Fair, you might have a pretty good idea of what you want to do but here is our list of the things you should really try to see if you can squeeze them in along with your own to-do list.
Carter Jonas Game Fair Theatre
There’s a lot going on in the countryside of national interest and importance at the moment, so much so we have over 20 MPs attending the event some of whom will be speaking at the Carter Jonas Game Fair Theatre. In addition to the serious stuff, a Suffolk horse will be at the Game Fair Theatre, with vice chairman of the Suffolk Horse Society, Gail Sprake to talk about the rare breed and celebrity mixologist Merlin Griffiths who has a passion for a pint in the countryside. Talks about his plan to save the rural pub. Amongst the live debates and serious conversation there is a lively mix of content that is both thought-provoking and enjoyable. You can speak up too and have your say – we’ll see you there.
The Working Dog Ring
If you’ve never seen working dogs in action you absolutely have to go to the Working Dog Ring where teams of golden retrievers, flatcoat retrievers, labradors, Clumber spaniels, Irish water spaniels, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever will be showing off their skills. Watch displays and demonstrations covering all aspects of working dogs, organised by Neil Varney of Twistmount Gundogs. You will be amazed at the skill and intelligence of these working dogs – quite an education.
Have a Go
Some of the best fun at The Game Fair can be had by trying out new activities that may lead to a new hobby and/or sport. So do give it a try, there are loads to choose from; Archery, Clay Shooting, Coarse Fishing, Fly Fishing, Fly Tying and Polo. You never know you might just discover a new passion.

Performance clothing, traditional tweeds, fishing rods, dog beds, shotguns and rifles, optics, ammunition, homewares, designer wear, footwear, vintage, art, huge machinery… Better still, you can try before you buy!
Finally ……
Food Glorious Food
At The Game Fair we are champions of seasonal food and support local artisan producers to the full, as you’ll discover when you stroll through our Totally Food area, which features the best of local artisan producers offering everything from pheasant goujons to beers from micro-breweries. We take eating seriously and we’re very particular about the food on offer.
If you find yourself getting hungry as you walk around other areas of The Game Fair, there is a huge choice of catering and bar areas in which to satisfy your appetite and thirst. Why not book a table at Peckish by the Lake and enjoy the food and the view.
