With a heritage that goes back eight generations, South African lifestyle brand Melvill & Moon boasts safari-inspired products handmade from top-quality materials by expert craftsmen, who share the brand’s love of Africa and its beauty.

The brand’s motto is Laudator Temporis Acti (translating as “the romance of an age gone by”) and it is a passion that sits at the heart of this three-decade old family owned and run company.

It was started by the Melvill family, inspired by their own African heritage. Having arrived in Southern Africa as missionaries in the 1700s, the family established themselves as prominent land surveyors, cattle ranchers and soldiers with Lieutenant Teignmouth Melvill winning the Victoria Cross at the Battle of Isandlwana in 1876.

One thing that features prominently through the generations is a love of Africa and a passion for safari.

The great African safaris lasted for a century – from 1836 to 1936 – and brought with them unique conditions and eccentric individuals who created a style of adventure that can never exist again.

However, this era proved to be a happy hunting ground for Melvill & Moon design and product inspiration – ensuring everything combines a luxurious look and feel with sturdy practicality – “hardy on the outside, fine on the inside.”

Steffi Halm, herself of South African heritage, is now offer this quality to the British sporting market.
