Go Fishing Worldwide is one of the best-known specialists in saltwater and freshwater angling holidays, offering trips to countless countries in almost every continent.
It’s also been a regular exhibitor at The Game Fair for many years so we grabbed two minutes with founder Maggi Smit to find out more and what you can look forward to when you visit its stand in the Fishing Village at this summer’s event.
How and why did Go Fishing Worldwide start?
I started Go Fishing Worldwide because Canada was keen for someone to sell fishing holidays over there in the UK. I called myself Go Fishing Canada and then realised I was going to starve in the winter so included The Bahamas and we went along from there.
What is the most popular trip / destinations and why?
It has to be Norway for salmon fishing. The fishing is good and it is an easy place to get to. It is also more affordable than some other destinations and the fishing has improved hugely in the last few years.
Go Fishing Worldwide has been a regular exhibitor at The Game Fair for years. What are the best bits about exhibiting?
Without a doubt it’s the enjoyment of meeting both existing and new clients and talking about the range of trips we have available.
How have you managed to cope with all the uncertainty and travel restrictions during the pandemic? How are bookings looking for the future?
In short, we have managed okay and, luckily, we were able to send some clients to Norway, Mexico and Slovenia in 2020. We have carried forward a lot of bookings and people are becoming more interested in booking for both this year and year.
What’s your favourite destination?
Mexico – it has all the species, great guides, lodge and great food.
