Gunmakers’ Court at The Game Fair Featuring Bill Blacker

This year, Gunmakers’ Court at The Game Fair is dedicated solely to one of Britain’s most respected barrel makers — Bill Blacker.

With nearly five decades in the trade, Bill is widely regarded as one of the finest barrel makers working in the UK today. He began his career in 1976 as an apprentice at Holland & Holland, later refining his craft at James Purdey & Sons before establishing his own workshop in 1985. Since then, he has built an international reputation for precision, balance and uncompromising quality.

Barrel making sits at the very heart of gun performance. The barrels determine how a gun handles, how it patterns, and ultimately how it performs in the field. It is meticulous, highly skilled work — requiring engineering accuracy measured in thousandths of an inch, alongside an instinctive understanding of weight distribution and handling.

Bill’s experience spans everything from best-quality sporting guns to complex and unusual projects, including large-bore rifles and multi-barrelled guns. His mastery of regulation and barrel striking has made him the trusted choice of leading gunmakers and private clients alike.

In recognition of his skill and contribution to the trade, Bill became the first gunmaker to be awarded Master Craftsman status by the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers, where he also serves in a senior certification role.
