Visitors to the Scottish, English and Welsh Game Fairs are being invited to stretch themselves in a bid to become the ultimate casting champion.

To be with a chance of qualifying for the Grand Final, to be staged at the GWCT Welsh Game Fair at Vaynol estate in September, participants will be challenged over three key disciplines – salmon and trout distance and a fly-casting accuracy contest.

The top scorers from these events at the GWCT Scottish Game Fair – being held at Scone Palace from July 1sy to 3^rd – The Game Fair at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire from July 29^th to 31^st and the GWCT Welsh Game Fair at Vaynol from September 9^th to 11^th – will compete on the final day in Wales to be crowned the Champion of Champions.

Entrants can compete on any day at any of the events in each discipline for a modest fee, with individual prizes and trophies on offer for each discipline and for men, ladies and juniors.

The top competitor from each will be invited to the GWCT Welsh Game Fair for the ultimate prize, which will include a specially commissioned trophy.

Run in conjunction with the British Fly Casting Club, each event will be a test of skill and will be run to official rules.

John Hunter, angling consultant at The Game Fair at Ragley Hall, said: “Casting competitions have always been a key component of both the Scottish and English fairs so, with the addition this year of the GWCT Welsh, it made sense to tie them all in so we can crown a Champion of Champions in September.

“Along with prizes and trophies, the winners from each event will be given a ticket package for the Sunday at the GWCT Welsh Game Fair, where the ultimate winner will be decided.

“With the access to fabulous water we have, especially at Ragley and Vaynol, these events will prove to be a great spectacle and will be a fitting finale to a summer of Game Fairs, the like of which the UK has never seen before.”

For those who want to learn or improve these amazing skills, the BFCC at Ragley will also be running have-a-go sessions on the pontoons on the lake, where members of the UK team competing in the following month’s World Championships in Norway will also be showcasing their skills as part of their warm up.
