Cornish boot brand using European talent

The Game Fair exhibitor, Trailback boots are a blend of traditional and modern, of European skills and technology yet inspired by the stunning landscapes of Cornwall and across the British Isles.

These are handcrafted, fully waterproof, leather rigger boots designed initially for rugged dog walking but now finding favour with anyone who ventures outdoors or off the beaten track.

The boots are handcrafted by a Spanish manufacturer who has been making Goodyear-welted footwear in the same family since 1899. Combine this with the internationally acclaimed Italian Vibram commando sole and the award-winning German Sympatex waterproof membrane and it’s easy to see why these are built for the job.

Sandy Wallis, who founded Trailback in 2017 after two years of research and development, explained: “The idea started when we got our Rhodesian Ridgeback dog called Roscoe. It was hard to find a suitable shoe or boot that would keep feet warm and dry on our long walks – Wellingtons were cold and uncomfortable over long distances and hiking boots just didn’t cut it in those deep, muddy puddles.

“It was an old pair of safety rigger boots I found in the back of the shoe cupboard that worked really well because they were rugged and fully waterproof, although they were heavy with the steel safety features.”

Rigger boots were originally designed for the North Sea Oil riggers but Sandy removed all the steel and reinforced safety features, refining and adapting it to meet the needs of outdoor men and women.

“Daily walks and adventures with Roscoe – known as the Trailback dog – has now secured his place in the journey as our logo.

“The Cornish landscapes feature greatly in our photography because we are very proud to be a Cornish brand. We love the outdoors, which of course has been driven by our stunning and beautiful Cornish landscapes.

“The design ethos for the Trailback is hardworking, functionality, versatility and style. We are committed to the product and love what it does for us.
