Sporting apparel expertly tailored to your individual needs
Savile Row Sporting Tailor is the bespoke tailoring firm of Andrew Granger with roots firmly grounded in the history and traditions of the world of Savile Row handed down ‘on the cutting table and sewing bench.’
Andrew learnt his trade as an apprentice tailor under the watchful eye of his father John Granger, master tailor and owner of Walter Norton & Sons on Savile Row, which was established in 1821 – which means the business has 200 years of experience and know-how.
For two centuries, the business has dressed ‘the great and the good’ and counts among its many delighted customers royalty, nobility, peers of the realm, industrialists, artists, actors, musicians, sportsmen, entrepreneurs and, as Andrew put it, “even the odd rogue here and there!”
Savile Row Sporting Tailor focuses on fine bespoke or semi-bespoke hand-tailored garments for both on and off the field, be it a field jacket with a storm proof interlining, a shooting Jacket fitted to perfection, a gilet for the warmer days, a dinner suit for the after-shoot dinner or even a blazer for a regatta.
Andrew revealed: “It all starts with the desire for the client to be dressed suitably and impeccably for each and every of his or her chosen occasions – in this case field sports.
“The style and detailing of the garment(s) is the usual starting point – copying an existing garment, creating something new or, most often, a blend of both.
“A discussion then takes place to determine the most suitable type of fabric, the weight, the tone, the weave – from a hand-woven Shetland Tweed to cottons, woollens and silks right through to luxurious cashmeres.”
A suitable lining, suede trimmings and buttons most often are chosen at the first fitting.
The process continues with the measurements are taken and figurations noted – military stance or sway, square shouldered or drop, dress left or right, full chest or corpulent and so on.
Andrew added: “Typically, it takes up to three months from initial meeting to delivery of the finished garment(s). It is most definitely a ‘niche’ trade for the discerning few seeking exceptional quality and craftsmanship.”
The family tradition, skills and, indeed, obsession, will be in evidence on the Savile Row Sporting Tailor stand later this month at The Game Fair, an event which Andrew loves and can’t wait to return to.
Andrew continued: “Clearly, The Game Fair is the preeminent field sports show and not to attend would be foolish. There is an exceptional line up of exhibitors on Gunmakers’ Row, all of the highest quality, and I am proud to be amongst them.
“I am very excited to be able to humbly offer my services for any Bespoke tailored garment and look forward to attending to current and future clients alike.
“To mark the return to some semblance of normality I am delighted to offer all customers a celebratory discount of 20 per cent.”
