Want to catch your first fish? Or your next…?
If you have ever fancied taking up fishing but aren‘t sure where to start then this summer’s Game Fair at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire, is the perfect place to do so.
As part of the launch of National Fishing Month – which will run hundreds of events up and down the country throughout the summer holidays – The Game Fair is giving you a chance to have a go at fishing and, hopefully, catch your very first fish.
Expert coaches from the Canal & River Trust will be on hand throughout the weekend of July 29th to 31st to explain all the ins and outs of the sport and help you put your fish on the bank.
Ragley estate’s stunning lake is the perfect venue and The Game Fair kicks off the largest coordinated fishing events programme in the UK. National Fishing Month, which is owned by the Angling Trade Association, will run from the start of the show until the schools go back in early September and is designed to showcase not just fishing but also its relaxation and wellbeing benefits, getting people out into the countryside.
ATA chairman Andrew Race explained: “National Fishing Month is the UK’s primary initiative to increase public awareness of angling and encourage participation in the many angling events and access days that are run during the month.
“Run annually by the ATA, it encourages every family member to have a go at fishing – regardless of their age, gender or cultural or social background. No previous fishing experience is required as the aim of the campaign is to demonstrate that fishing really is for everyone!”
The CRT-backed sessions on the lake are suitable for anyone aged six or over but aren’t just for kids and can also cater for people getting back into the sport after a break.
The coaches will you show you how to use the equipment, understand how to ‘read’ the water in front of you, use bait effectively and, crucially, catch some of the lake’s resident carp, roach and bream.
If you’d prefer to learn how to fly fish then experts from the Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors will also be by the lake, teaching you how to cast a fly rod.
